How Do 48-Hour Holds Work?

Learn more about the 48-Hour Hold feature below.

One of the unique features that TourRadar offers travelers is to ‘hold’ (reserve) their spot on a certain adventure for one 48-hour period without committing to the tour with a payment. This gives travelers time to get their necessary affairs in order and makes the reserved spot on the adventure temporarily unavailable to other travelers until the hold is released or expires.

This feature is only available for adventures that are available on ‘Instant Book’, meaning that you, as the Operator, must be able to guarantee the tour will depart.

This will only be offered if the hold is requested within the set parameters for Instant Book. If the traveler wants to book the tour they’ve placed a hold on, you must be able to confirm it.

Once activated, the “Hold my space for 48 hours” option appears:

  • On the Tour Details Page, under the Book Now button (for eligible departures)

  • On the Booking Page, above the traveler details section

What Happens When a Hold is Placed

  1. You’ll receive an email notification

  2. The request will appear in your Operator Dashboard under Enquiries & Bookings

  • Status: Pending

  • Type: Hold

  • A 48-hour countdown will be visible

      3. You can contact the traveler in the Booking Conversation Page (BCP) to answer questions and encourage booking.

When a Hold Converts to a Booking

If the traveler confirms the booking:

  • You’ll get an email notification

  • The hold will update to a standard booking in your Operator Dashboard

  • Proceed as you would with any other booking

If the Hold Expires After 48 Hours

  • The spot will be automatically released

  • You’ll get an email that the hold has expired

  • The booking will update in your Dashboard as:

    • Status: Declined

    • Type: Hold
